Description
Twenty years after his historic voyage, Charles Darwin is hard at work writing On the Origin of Species. To complete his groundbreaking research, he seeks fresh insights into animal life, especially from regions he never had the chance to explore. Who better to assist him than ambitious young naturalists eager for discovery?
In In the Footsteps of Darwin, players take on the roles of junior naturalists newly arrived aboard the Beagle, ready to help Darwin finalize his most famous work. Throughout the journey, you’ll study wildlife, chart new territories, publish your findings, and develop your own theories.
Each turn, starting with the naturalist holding the Darwin token and continuing clockwise, players perform the following steps:
-
Study an animal or draw inspiration from a character: Select one of the three tiles in front of the Beagle and add it to your personal notebook. The tile may represent an animal to research or a historical figure from Darwin’s earlier voyage offering inspiration. Gain the bonuses shown on the tile, along with any additional points or effects triggered by its placement.
-
Voyage of the Beagle: After placing your tile, move the Beagle forward a number of spaces equal to the distance between the ship and the tile you selected (1–3 spaces). Then draw a new tile to refill the empty spot on the journey board.
Your mission is to earn more points than your fellow naturalists and prove you made the most significant contribution to On the Origin of Species.
